José Manuel González-Páramo

José Manuel González-Páramo holds a PhD., MPhil and M.A. in economics from the University of Columbia, New York. He also holds a PhD from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. In 1988 he assumed the role as Professor of Economics at UCM and later in 2012 at the IESE Business School. Between 1985 and 1994 he was an economic advisor in various public and private institutions, including the Banco de España (1989-1994), the European Commission, the IMF and the World Bank Group.  He was a member of the Executive Board and the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) between 2004 and 2012. He was a member of the Governing Council (1994-2004) and the Executive Commission of the Banco de España  (1998-2004).  In June 2013 he was appointed Executive Board member of BBVA.  As Executive Director of the entity, he is Chief Officer, Global Economics Regulation & Public Affairs, and Chairman of the International Advisory Board.  Since 2016, he has assumed the roles as Europe Chair of the TransAtlantic Business Council (TABC), the official business advisory body to the U.S government and the European Union on trade, investment and regulatory issues.  Since February 2018, José Manuel González-Páramo has also acted as chair the Spain-Peru Council Foundation, a non-profit corporation with the aim of strengthening relations between the two countries.  Since 2015, he has been Vice President of the US-Spain Council Foundation and a member of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences.
