Carlos Güell Awards for Corporate Sponsorship and Patronage

07 October 2015

The Carlos Güell Awards for Corporate Sponsorship and Patronage (previously named Winterthur Awards – Economic News – ÆDME) celebrates 2015 with its twenty-second edition, becoming the oldest and longest running event of its kind in our country.

Due to its trajectory, the variety of the award-winning categories, the importance of award-winning companies, as well as the composition of the Jury, these awards have also become one of the most prominent of its kind, in Europe. In this twenty-second edition, the Cercle d’Economia Foundation has decided to change the name of the award in memory of, and as a tribute to Carlos Güell who was its founder in 1991 coinciding with the Olympic games and the enthusiasm which proceeded.

Throughout these years, these awards have contributed to the recognition, dissemination and promotion of corporate sponsorship and patronage as a key element of corporate social responsibility.

The Jury for the awards is composed of public figures of the highest prestige in civil society, the field of business, culture and solidarity action. The Spanish Association for the Development of Corporate Sponsorship (ÆDME) was established in 1994 at the initiative of the Cercle d’Economia Foundation, who led the management of the Awards between 1995 and 2008 and was responsible for coordinating all related activities.

Since then, the Cercle d’Economía Foundation decided to integrate the Corporate Sponsorship and Patronage Awards into its activities. It is especially worth noting that, in spite of the recent proliferation of business awards in fields close to those considered by the Cercle d’Economia Foundation Awards for Corporate Sponsorship and Patronage, these are the only ones which include a cultural category in each call. Important companies and institutions have since its birth, supported the Awards for Corporate Sponsorship and Patronage in Spain.

Throughout the first twelve years, the awards were sponsored by Winterthur (currently, Axa). Between 2003 and 2006, this responsibility was coordinated by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Agency for Sponsorship and Patronage, Department of Culture), with the support of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, later with the support of Banco Santander and the Regional Government of Madrid, and in the last three editions with the support of Banc Sabadell.
