Holds a degree in Economics from the University of Barcelona and a PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota. She is currently Director of the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE), Honorary Professor at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), and Associate Researcher at the Center for Research in International Economics (CREI). She is also Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Political Economy and Governance (IPEG).
In the institutional and corporate spheres, she serves as a board member of Repsol and Chair of its Audit Committee, Non-Executive Chair of Sabadell Digital, and Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise. She has previously served as a board member of Enagás (2006–2014), Vueling (2007–2009), and Banco Sabadell (2007–2020); as Vice President and Executive Committee member of Barcelona Global (2018–2025); and has been part of various public and private advisory boards, including the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF) (2015–2020) and the Advisory Council for Economic Reactivation and Growth (CAREC) of the Government of Catalonia (2012–2015).
In the academic sphere, she has held several leadership positions at UPF — including Dean (1995–2000), Vice-Rector (2009–2011), and Department Director (2011–2012) — and served as President of the Spanish Economic Association (2014).
Her research has focused on the impact of public investment on economic growth and on analyzing how different fiscal structures and models of fiscal federalism affect economic growth, resource distribution, and economic welfare. She has received several honors, including the Narcís Monturiol Medal from the Government of Catalonia.
