A Doctor of Law, José María Lassalle began his professional career as a researcher and professor of philosophy of law at the Universidad de Cantabria and the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. He was scientific coordinator at the Carolina Foundation Center for Hispanic and Ibero-American Studies and later assumed the role as director. In 2004 he began his political activity as a deputy in Congress for Cantabria, being reelected in 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2016 by the same constituency. He made his dedication to politics compatible with his teaching activity at the Universidad San Pablo-CEU and at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos de Madrid. In 2011 he was appointed Secretary of State for Culture and in 2016 of the Digital Agenda. In July 2018 he left politics and resumed his academic activity as a professor at ICADE. He is the author of numerous essays and academic publications on Anglo-Saxon political thought and philosophy and writes periodically in El País and La Vanguardia.
