Jordi Gual

Professor of Economics at IESE Business School
Full Professor (Catedrático) of Economics at IESE Business School. He holds a PhD in Economics (1987) from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London. Since April 2021, Jordi Gual has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of VidaCaixa. He is also Vice President of the Cercle d’Economia, a member of the Boards of Trustees of the CEDE Foundation and the Cultural Institution of CIC, and was recently appointed SUERF Fellow and member of the Advisory Council of the Spanish Institute of Financial Analysts. Between 2016 and 2021, he served as Chairman of CaixaBank. Before taking on that role, he was Chief Economist and Executive Director of Strategic Planning and Research at CaixaBank, and General Director of Strategic Planning and Development at CriteriaCaixa. He joined the “la Caixa” Group in 2005. He has served on the Boards of Telefónica, Erste Group Bank, and Repsol. He was also President of FEDEA, Economic Advisor at the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission in Brussels, and Visiting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. Jordi Gual has published extensively on banking, European integration, regulation, and competition policy. In 2019, he received the Gold Badge of the Spanish Institute of Financial Analysts; in 1999, the European Investment Bank Research Award; and in 1979, the Extraordinary Graduation Prize in Economics and Business. He was also a Fulbright Scholar.
