Video of the session about “Barcelona: state of the issue”

The municipal elections are a crucial moment for the future of Barcelona and for reflecting on the different models of the city. In this act we had the participation of different representatives of organizations of the city to talk about the problems, challenges and opportunities that Barcelona has in the coming years. We were accompanied by Mercè Conesa, general director of Barcelona Global, Oriol Estela, general coordinator of the PEMB, and Fèlix Riera, director of ReThinkBCN. The session was moderated by Jordi Amat, member of the Cercle d'Economia Board of Directors.

“A strategy is needed to reduce emissions, focusing on accompanying the transition to electric vehicles and providing resources for building rehabilitation. (…)

The climate challenge is complex and has consequences for everyone. We cannot put borders between municipal terms. The position of Barcelona Global is in a metropolitan key.”

?️ We must find the formula to make an international imperative such as facing the challenges of climate change compatible with progress, the capacity for innovation and the competitiveness of companies. (…)

Improving the Rodalies is of utmost urgency. A person cannot spend an hour to get from Mataró to Barcelona. How do we reach a consensus to improve something that we know is essential for the metropolitan region and for Catalonia?”

Taking the whole of the metropolitan region of Barcelona, what we propose from the PEMB is to combine, as the urban planner Carlos Moreno also proposes, the idea of a 15-minute city, with that of the 45-minute region."
